    Overview

    Members of the Commission will attend this meeting in person at the location listed above. Members of the public are invited to observe the meeting in person or remotely online at the physical meeting location listed above or online at https://bit.ly/SFAC306 In addition, members of the public attending the meeting in person will have an opportunity to provide public comment on every item.

    In addition to in-person public comment, the Commission will hear up to three minutes of remote public comment on each agenda item. The Commission will listen to remote public comments on each item in the order that commenters add themselves to the queue to comment on the item. Because of the three-minute time limit, only some people in the queue may have an opportunity to provide remote public comment. Remote public comment from people who have received an accommodation due to disability (as described below) will not count toward the three-minute limit.

      The San Francisco Arts Commission acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the indigenous stewards of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders and relatives of the Ramaytush Community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples. As a department dedicated to promoting a diverse and equitable Arts and Culture environment in San Francisco, we are committed to supporting the traditional and contemporary evolution of the American Indian community.

      To approve funding recommendation of the Arts Impact Endowment - First Time Grantee Initiative, Space/Capital Support to award one (1) grant to San Francisco Art Book Fair LLC (Fiscal Sponsor: Independent Arts & Media) funded by the FY21 Arts Impact Endowment in accordance with the priorities outlined in the Community Services Allocation Plan; and to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a grant agreement not to exceed $50,000 at this time.

      1. Motion to authorize the future removal of an original artwork by HYBYCOZO titled Aurum (which will be installed in Mint Plaza) under Section 5.8 (Revocability) of the Major Encroachment Permit between the Arts Commission and Public Works in the event that: 1) such removal is required for public right-of-way needs or use or public health or safety reasons as reasonably determined by the Director of Public Works, 2) a Major Encroachment Permit applicable to the site of the artwork is revoked, or 3) the site of the artwork is approved for conversion to a roadway.  

      1. Motion to retroactively approve as installed, Unfolding Space (in Gold), 2020, a wall sculpture composed of 400 pieces of rectangular architectural bronze tubing measuring 132 in. by 540 in., by Andrew Vogt at San Francisco International Airport, Harvey Milk Terminal 1, Boarding Area B.  

      1. Motion to approve as installed the completed artwork titled MMXX, 2021, by Alicia McCarthy for the San Francisco International Airport, International Terminal, Boarding Area A. The artwork consists of six painted and sandblasted glass panels with overall dimensions totaling 7 ft. 6 in. high by 24 ft. Wide.  

      1. Motion to approve the conceptual design The Dynamics of Building and Maintaining by Selina Trepp for the 49 South Van Ness Video Wall project.  

      1. Motion to approve the conceptual design Ritual: Initiation by Aron Kantor for the 49 South Van Ness Video Wall project.  

      1. Motion to approve the conceptual design Anniversary by Kota Ezawa for the 49 South Van Ness Video Wall project.  

      1. Motion to approve as installed, Jamari’s Journey, 2022, a temporary artwork by Nancy Cato, as installed on the Southeast Treatment Plant Construction Fence along Evans Avenue between Rankin and Phelps Streets.  

       

      Community Investments Committee Recommendations (February 21, 2023 link to agenda) 

      10. Motion to approve recommendations to award seven (7) Special Project Grants, funded by District Supervisor Add-Backs to the following organizations and to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into grant agreements with each organization for amounts not to exceed the following at this time.  

      District 5 – Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Historical Society, $62,250 over one year to support a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer (LGBTQ) History Project in the Mid-Market/Tenderloin neighborhood.  

         

      District 5 - Mission Art 415, Inc., $75,000 over one year to support Murals and arts-related events in Fillmore, Hayes Valley, and Tenderloin neighborhoods.  

         

      District 7 – Michael Ritch, $24,950 over one year to support Utility Box Mural Installation and Repair along Ocean Avenue and neighboring streets.  

        

      District 8 - Eureka Valley Neighborhood Association (Fiscal Sponsor: Castro Upper Market Community Benefit District Inc.) $25,000 over one year to support Mural Restoration.  

        

      District 9 – Galeria Studio 24, $300,000 over two years to support an Arts Fellow Program in the Mission District including the hiring of four (4) four fellows to develop a partnership with the San Francisco Latino Parity and Equity Coalition and the Latino Task Force Coalition.  

        

      Citywide Maya Angelou Celebration - African American Shakespeare Company, $50,000 over one year to support free community events commemorating Maya Angelou.  

        

      Citywide Maya Angelou Celebration – Youth Speaks Inc., $50,000 over one year to support free community events commemorating Maya Angelou.

    1. Agenda items will normally be heard in order. Please note, that on occasion a special circumstance may necessitate that an agenda item be taken out of order. To ensure that an agenda item is not missed, it is advised to arrive at the beginning of the meeting. All agenda changes will be announced by the Chair at the top of the meeting. 

    2. Public comment will be taken before or during the Committee’s consideration of each agenda item. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for the time allotted by the Chair at the top of the meeting or up to three (3) minutes.  

    3. During General Public Comment, members of the public may address the Commissioners on matters that are within the Arts Commission’s jurisdiction and are not on the agenda.
