Get help for your business after specific disasters

This grant is for small businesses that experience major damage and disruption caused by a fire or vehicular accident that was not their fault.

What to know

Grant amount

Up to $10,000

Program priority

We are prioritizing grants to businesses that were significantly damaged by a:

  • Fire that was not their fault
  • Vehicular accidents/collisions

Deadline

There is no deadline for this grant. Grants to eligible businesses within a year of the incident.

Grants are available on a first-come-first-serve basis, based on fund availability.

Grants can cover the following

  • Inventory replacement
  • Equipment purchases
  • Security deposits for a new lease
  • Employee salaries
  • Other expenses to stabilize cash flow

Application deadline

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis while funds are available.

What to do

1. Check if your business is eligible

  • Your business must be registered in San Francisco at the time of the fire
  • Your business suffered physical damages from a fire or vehicular accident within the past 12 months
    • The incident can not be the fault of the business.
  • The damage must have been at a permanent, physical location in San Francisco
    • Mobile businesses are not eligible
    • Home-based businesses are not eligible
      • This include the management of residential rental properties
  • You must intend to reopen or relocate in San Francisco
  • Nonprofits are eligible
  • Must have $5 million or less in gross revenue
  • Must have an average of 100 or fewer employees

2. Request an application

Contact the Office of Small Business to request a copy of the application form at 415-554-6134 or sfosb@sfgov.org.

3. Apply

The application will take about 20 minutes to fill out once you have your materials ready. It is available as an online form, fillable PDF, or in print.

We will ask for:

  • Contact information
  • Business Account Number (BAN)
  • When the incident occured
  • Financial losses
  • Recover costs
  • Insurance status
  • Plans for recovery
  • Photos or other documentation of the incident

For fires:

  • Upload or we will request the Fire Investigation Report from the Fire Department

For vehicular accidents:

  • Upload or we will request the Police Report

4. After you apply

We review applications on a rolling basis while funding is available.

We will let you know the status of your application within two weeks of your complete application being submitted.

5. Learn about your options

We know that these events can be disruptive and result in loss of revenue. We are here to help. In addition to this grant, the Office of Small Business can help you access:

  • Business counseling
  • Referrals to specialized advisors
  • Low-interest loans
  • Relocation and/or lease help
  • Permitting support
