Susan Schneider

My name is Susan Schneider. I have worked on the Positive Care Unit of Laguna Honda Hospital since it opened in 1990. Positive Care is a 60-bed skilled nursing unit that specializes in the care of people with HIV and Hepatitis C. Positive Care is an interdisciplinary team working with patients from different backgrounds, each with their own unique medical and social challenges. The common goal is to help the patients reach their optimal level of well being whether they reside at Laguna Honda for an extended stay or a short period of rehabilitation where they are linked to community services upon discharge.

The team works to build strong bonds and community within the Positive Care Unit. We share our grief in community based memorial services. We also have celebrated a few weddings. For many years, the patients, their families and staff have participated in AIDS Walk in Golden Gate Park as well as Pride. Laguna Honda Hospital is very happy to be on the road again in the Pride Parade this year after a two year hiatus due to Covid.
