Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax Advisory Committee (SDDTAC)

The Advisory Committee makes recommendations on budget allocations of the Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax and evaluates its impact.

San Francisco Soda Tax
Since 2018, SF's penny-per-ounce tax on sugary drinks is helping San Franciscans live their best lives by making it easier to drink more water, eat fresh fruits and vegetables, get exercise, improve oral health, and drink less soda.

  • Data and Evidence Subcommittee: 2nd Wednesday at 10 am 
  • Infrastructure Subcommittee: 2nd Monday at 1:30 pm 
  • Community Input Subcommittee: 2nd Tuesday at 4:00 pm

2023 SDDT Data Report
This report evaluates the impact of the Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax (SDDT) on prices, purchasing, and health. While annual recommendations have continued since 2018, this is the first data update since 2019 due to COVID-19. Annual data reporting resumed in 2024.

This is the first report evaluating the impact of the Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax (SDDT) on beverage prices, purchasing behavior, and public health in San Francisco, fulfilling the Committee’s annual reporting requirement established in 2018.

The general purpose of the Advisory Committee is to make recommendations to the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors on the effectiveness of the Sugary Drinks Distributor Tax in Business Tax and Regulations Code Article 8.

Sugary Drink Distributors Tax Advisory Committee (SDDTAC)

San Francisco voters established the 16-member SDDTAC to make recommendations to the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors on the effectiveness of the soda tax. The SDDTAC is designed to intentionally reflect San Francisco’s diverse communities with community and agency seats, balancing grassroots and institutional voices. Members’ lived experiences provide crucial insight, enabling the committee to make informed, targeted decisions that support those most affected by sugary drinks.
