This is the standard monthly public meeting held in person by the Sheriff's Department Oversight Board. Members of the Oversight Board will be present at this meeting in person. Members of the public are welcome to attend and observe the proceedings in person. The Board will review and possibly approve the February 7, 2025, Board Meeting Minutes.
Procedures for the Recruitment of an Inspector General (Discussion and Possible Action)
Ben Richey from the Department of Human Resources will address the board regarding the procedures and expenses associated with engaging a recruitment firm to attract applications for the position of a new inspector general. The Board will evaluate and may approve a resolution regarding the engagement of a recruitment agency.
Presentation by Damian Posey (Discussion)
Damien Posey, a prominent community leader and motivational speaker, widely recognized as Uncle Damien, will share his journey of finding inspiration during his time in federal prison. He will discuss his encounter with Rudy Corpuz, his involvement with numerous community organizations, and how these experiences have enabled him to serve as a source of inspiration for the youth in San Francisco.
Board Member Report (Discussion)
Board Member William Palmer II, will present his recommendations regarding food and nutrition, counseling services, urban gardening initiatives, and additional programs aimed at enhancing both physical and mental well-being within the San Francisco jails.
Sheriff's Department Oversight Board SDOB 2024 Annual Report (Discussion and Possible Action)
Review, discussion, and potential action concerning the 2024 Annual Report, which is to be submitted to the Sheriff and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors in accordance with San Francisco Charter 4.137 (b)(6).
Evaluation of Amendment to SDOB Rules of Order (Discussion and Possible Action)
Discussion and potential action on the updated SDOB Rules of Order, specifically Rule 1.14(a) and Rule 1.14(b), which were approved on May 3, 2024, with an agreement to reassess in six months.
Future Agenda Items (Discussion and Possible Action)
Board members may suggest future agenda items.
General Public Comment
Members of the public are invited to speak to the Board regarding matters that were not included in this afternoon's agenda, provided that these topics fall within the Board's subject matter jurisdiction.
