What to expect after you apply to use the sidewalk or parking lane

We will email you in 3 business days about parking lane use. Start using the sidewalk 2 days after you apply.

Sidewalk space

You may start using this space in 2 business days.

We will contact you if we find issues with your application or insurance documents.

You will need to add diverters before using sidewalk space. 

We will email you a sign to print and display outside your business. We will also email you a legally binding permit within a week. This temporary permit is valid until June 30, 2021.

We will visit your business location to inspect your approved area. We may revoke your permit.

We may ask you to take a picture of your space and email it to us.

Parking lane 

We will review your application for the parking lane. You may not use the parking lane now. We will contact you with next steps within 3 business days.

You will need to add traffic barriers before using the parking lane.

You may not use the parking lane until we have emailed you a permit and required traffic barriers are installed.

Expiration

This temporary permit is valid until June 30, 2021. Your permit can be revoked.

Enforcement

We will visit your business location to inspect your approved area.

We may revoke your permit. A business may appeal the decision to the Director of the Department of Public Works within 15 calendar days. We will hold a virtual Public Works Director’s Hearing for the appeal of revocation.

Complaints

The public may submit a complaint by telling 311. We will investigate and try to resolve the situation.
