Apply to become a DreamSF fellow

The DreamSF Fellowship is a paid leadership and civic engagement program for immigrant youth. Apply in spring each year.

What to do


You can apply if you are:

  • over 18
  • live in the Bay Area
  • available 20 hours a week
  • available from 9 am to 12 pm every Friday
  • proficient in English

You also need to go to a 2 or 4 year college. You must either:

  • Be currently enrolled
  • Planning to enroll
  • Or have recently graduated 

You can apply regardless of your immigration status.

What you will need

1. Essays

To apply you will need to respond to 2 short answer questions of about 250 words each and 3 essays of about 500 words each. 

Short answer questions and essay topics are about: 

  • You professional skills, goals and interests
  • The role migration has played in your life
  • An example of personal growth 

There is also an optional short essay about COVID-19 accommodations. 

2. Your Resume

You will need to upload a copy of your resume (or CV) to the application. Your school's career center can help you write a resume.

What happens after you apply

We will email you about your application in mid May.

If you are selected as a semi-finalist you will have a group and individual interview in June.

If you are selected for the fellowship, you will start at the end of June or early July 2021.

Why do we offer fellowships to immigrants?

The DreamSF Fellowship supports young immigrant professionals by partnering with organizations that help San Francisco's immigrant community.
