Office Of The Refuse Rates Administrator
We are responsible for setting fair, transparent, and accountable refuse rates as the City continues to pursue its Zero-Waste goals.
Most residents will see an increase of less than $2 over two years. The Refuse Rate Board has approved rate increases of 1.33% in 2024 and 2.55% in 2025, which is 36% lower than Recology's proposed rate increases and results in $8.7 million in ratepayers savings over two years.
Residential, commercial, and related refuse rates in San Francisco. Effective January 1, 2024 - September 30, 2024.

The Refuse Rate Reform Ordinance Of 2022 amends the Refuse Collection and Disposal Ordinance (“the Refuse Ordinance”) to restructure the refuse rate setting process to replace hearings before the Department of Public Works with a requirement that the Controller, as Refuse Rate Administrator, regularly monitor the rates and appear before the Refuse Rate Board to recommend rate adjustments.
