Applications for the next cohort will be announced in Fall 2023

DataScienceSF is a free program available to all City & County departments to improve operations and services for San Franciscans by harnessing the power of data science.

Our free service aims to help City department staff achieve more with their existing resources and processes. The service works by identifying opportunities to leverage advanced analytics, applied statistics, and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning to solve a specific operational problem.

We select projects once or twice per year through a competitive application process. Each project or engagement lasts between one to four months. The final product of the engagement isn't a recommendation or a report, instead, you will change how your department delivers a specific service or operation.

City staff can work with our DataScienceSF team to:

• refine a problem
• identify methods to address the problem
• develop and put in place a service change tool to improve how the service is delivered

The DataScienceSF team is also available to consult with departments on:

• procuring data science or AI/ ML tools,
• recruiting or staff their own data science teams, and
• best practices on implementing data science projects
