The Controller's Office works closely with Recreation and Parks and Department of Public Works to keep San Francisco's public spaces clean and safe.
To ensure their upkeep, we create:
- Standards we must follow to keep our streets, sidewalks, and parks clean
- Regular maintenance and cleaning schedules
- Annual reports reviewing how we're doing

Park standards
These standards define the desired conditions of park features. We developed these standards with Recreation & Parks, along with input from park advocates and the general public.

Street and sidewalk standards
We created these standards with Department of Public Works to evaluate:
- Street cleaning
- Sidewalk cleanliness
- Graffiti
- Trash receptacles
- Trees and landscaping

Other reports
This report measures the public's perceptions of San Francisco street and sidewalk cleanliness and how well they match the City’s maintenance standards and programs.
We conducted the park survey in April 2007 to understand park users and their habits.
