President Wechter welcomed the public. Members Afuhaamango, Soo, Brookter, Nguyen, Palmer, and President Wechter introduced themselves, welcomed the public, and gave a brief profile of themselves.

Back to topRECRUITMENT OF AN INSPECTOR GENERAL
The floor was open for the public to address the board on what qualifications they would like to see in an Inspector General.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Vice President Carrion, who was unable to attend the meeting, wrote in the following public comment: It’s key to have a leader that is forward-thinking and not re-packaging the mistakes from the past. This means listening to subject matter experts and incorporating the massive amounts of research done in the last couple of decades.

BREAK
The board took a 10-minute break from 6:15 pm to 6:25 pm to allow more members of the public to appear and join the meeting.
During the break, a member of the public appeared.
The board members again gave a brief profile of themselves.
The secretary recalled agenda line item two: Recruitment of an Inspector General and opened the floor to the public.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Maxine Anderson, a member of the League of Women Voters, appeared not to represent the League, but as a member of the community. She stated she supported the goals of the oversight board. She wanted to know what the process was and stated she did not want a repeat of the Gaines case in San Diego.
Member Soo responded.
GENERAL PUBLIC COMMENT (recalled)
Maxine Anderson asked the board what their vision for an Inspector General would be if the board had unlimited funds to hire one.
Although members of the board are not required to respond to public comment, given that Ms. Anderson was the only member of the public present, the floor was opened for a meaningful discussion with Ms. Anderson. Members Nguyen, Aufhaamango, President Wechter, Members Brookter, Soo and Palmer responded.
Ms. Anderson asked about educating the public on what the Sheriff’s department does. Members Soo, Brookter, President Wechter, Members Afuhaamango, and Palmer responded.

All those in favor voted AYE. No NAYS.
Meeting was adjourned at 7:00 pm.
