Born and raised in San Francisco, Sofia Alicastro (She/Her) started her career working with a variety of film festivals (Sundance, Tribeca, and more) in positions ranging from production to operations. Pursuing her passion for film, she eventually found her stride in filmmaker services working directly with writers, producers, directors, distributors, publicists, and programmers. After returning to her hometown, she began working at SFFILM in Artist Development. There, she ran the artist in residency program, provided creative consultancy, and assisted in national and international film funding efforts. After three years aiding filmmakers in their creative journeys through her work at SFFILM, Sofia decided to branch out and take a position at HealthSherpa - a social impact company and online platform for enrollments under the Affordable Care Act. Working as a Recruiter, she reveled in the deep impact she could have in helping to make healthcare more accessible. The role also furthered her love of working with people and communities. A dedicated supporter of independent filmmakers, Sofia is thrilled to return to film work and champion the power of storytelling in the incredibly beautiful and layered San Francisco. Having grown up in the City with Latinx and Italian roots, she is deeply invested in the vibrant local filmmaking community and hopes to support and uplift underrepresented voices while creating opportunities for the myriad artists, individuals, and businesses that make this place so unique. She graduated from Lewis & Clark College with a BA in Rhetoric and Media Studies and a minor in Studio Art. In her spare time, she continues to explore a visual art practice (currently oil painting), but you’re just as likely to find her at the Roxie or 4 Star.
