The San Francisco Public Library recently unveiled the SFPL Book Stop automated book kiosk at Treasure Island’s Island Cove Market. The kiosk is pre-stocked with assorted titles and available for community use during market hours. An SFPL Library Card is required to check-out titles at the Book Stop.
“The SFPL Book Stop is the very first book kiosk of its kind in San Francisco. Our mission is to ensure that every San Franciscan has access to books and the joy of reading. The SFPL Book Stop helps bring us one step further in that direction,” said City Librarian Michael Lambert. “We really couldn’t ask for a better location than the Island Cove Market, a beloved community hub on Treasure Island.”
A launch and ribbon-cutting event held Saturday February 18th celebrated the Book Stop’s arrival on-Island and was attended by community members, District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey, City Librarian Michael Lambert, Treasure Island Development Authority (TIDA) Board of Directors vice-president Linda Richardson and SFPL Commission President Connie Wolf. The Book Stop launch also featured a Bookmobile visit, library card registrations, community giveaways and functional demonstrations of the kiosk.
“Treasure Island is always an amazing place to come, a great place to spend the weekend and go for a run. This is a part of the City that’s often unseen,” said District 6 Supervisor Matt Dorsey. “The bookmobile is here, and we’re doing this innovative library hub to bring Library services here.”
“Treasure Island is a jewel. I’ve always felt that one of the best gifts you could give to someone, the leaders of the future, is to introduce them to the Library,” said Linda Richardson, TIDA Board vice-president. “Libraries are about education, about finding yourself, and about giving that lasting gift to adults and young people for the rest of their lives.”
“It’s very convenient not to have to go out to the City to access library books. This is going to be helpful, for sure.” said Jessica Mastache, the first Treasure Island resident to use the kiosk.
The Treasure Island SFPL Book Stop is located at Island Cove Market, 800 Avenue H on Treasure Island.
