San Francisco, CA – Today, Mayor London N. Breed recognized DoorDash as a major sponsor to support San Francisco as the host City for the 2023 Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders’ Meeting in November. DoorDash is one of the earliest major donors for the City’s APEC fundraising efforts, which now total $11.5 million. As a lead contributor and thought-partner to the City for this multilateral, global convening of economic leadership, DoorDash co-founder and CEO Tony Xu will serve as Co-Chair of San Francisco’s 2023 APEC Host Committee.
Early this year in May, DoorDash donated $500,000 to the San Francisco Special Events Committee which is responsible for all the APEC-related fundraising efforts. This generosity marks a significant contribution to APEC’s success and demonstrates their commitment to making a positive impact as a global business leader. DoorDash has also pledged to serve as a strong advocate for and partner to San Francisco through its continued community engagement and community-building efforts.
“DoorDash’s support instills confidence in San Francisco’s future and the values that APEC represents,” said Mayor London Breed. “That is why I am so grateful for DoorDash’s early commitment to support all of the efforts we have been doing to make sure people can have an incredible time in San Francisco. As our City departments and partners are working together, I am confident that the thousands of APEC attendees will have the best stories to tell while they are visiting our City.”
“With the world’s eyes set on San Francisco this fall, we have a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate how our City is continuing to grow as a global capital of innovation,” said Tony Xu, co-founder and CEO of DoorDash. “DoorDash’s mission to empower local economies across the globe starts right here in our own backyard, and extends throughout the Asia-Pacific region. We’re proud to work closely with Mayor Breed to help make the APEC Leaders' Meeting an unforgettable experience that will drive better economic collaboration internationally.”
DoorDash’s contributions will be instrumental in enhancing experiences for attendees and covering essential expenses that showcase what San Francisco has to offer to the world. This support not only strengthens this international conference but also underscores their dedication to community engagement on a global stage.
