Mayor Lurie Announces Civil Service Commission, Golden Gate Bridge Highway Transportation District Appointees

Two Appointments Will Continue Commitment to Accountability, Service, and Change For San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO – Mayor Daniel Lurie today announced new appointments to the Civil Service Commission and the Golden Gate Bridge Highway Transport District. Mayor Lurie has appointed Adam Wood to join the Civil Service Commission and Amber Parrish to the Golden Gate Bridge Highway Transport District. Mayor Lurie thanks Annemarie Conroy and FX Crowley for their service on the Civil Service Commission and GGB Highway Transport District.

"Adam Wood and Amber Parrish have extensive backgrounds in public service, community leadership, and delivering for their communities," said Mayor Daniel Lurie. "I am proud to be appointing these two qualified individuals to serve our city. Their experience and ability to collaborate with others will play a critical role in San Francisco’s comeback."

Adam Wood retired from the San Francisco Fire Department in June 2024, after a 29-year career. During his time with the department, he was elected to the executive board of San Francisco Firefighters Local 798 in 2012, serving as director, vice-president, and secretary. He was an elected delegate to the California Labor Federation from 2012 to 2025 and has served on the executive committee of the San Francisco Labor Council since 2021. He was appointed to the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF) standing Occupational Safety and Health Committee in 2021 and joined the board of the San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation in 2015 where he continues to serve as the Foundation’s vice-president.

Amber Parrish is a seasoned labor leader with extensive experience in policy advocacy, workforce development, and engagement. As the Executive Director of the UFCW Western States Council since 2015, she has led initiatives to advance workplace standards and economic security for UFCW members. She founded the Work Forward program, expanding education and skill-building opportunities, including specialized training in LGBTQ+ pharmacy services, workplace safety, and violence prevention. Prior to her current role, she served as Political Director for the San Francisco Labor Council, where she developed and executed advocacy campaigns, engaged with government stakeholders, and influenced public policy on critical labor and economic issues. Her leadership extends beyond her professional roles, having served on various boards and advisory committees, including the SFLC Executive Board and the California Community Vaccine Advisory Committee.
