    Overview

    This is the regular in-person monthly public meeting of the Sheriff's Department Oversight Board. Members of the Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board will attend this meeting in-person. Members of the public are invited to observe the meeting in-person. Except for persons with disabilities requiring reasonable accommodation, only members of the public attending the meeting in person will have an opportunity to provide public comment.

    3. Approval of Minutes (Action)

      Review and approve the Meeting Minutes from the Sheriff's Oversight Board Regular Meeting held on June 7, 2024

    4. Presentation from the SF District Attorney's Office (Informational)

      Priscilla Portillo and Maria Reynoso will give an overview on victim services including victim rights when serving victims of crime in San Francisco.

    5. Nomination and Election of Officers (Informational and Action)

      Pursuant to the Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board, Rules of Order – Rule 1.3 –, the floor is open for nominations for the office of President and Vice-President for the 2024-25 term. Voting will commence immediately following nominations for each office and public comment.

    6. Inspector General Report (Informational)

      Inspector General Terry Wiley will report on the monthly activities of the Office of the Inspector General, along with 2024 Q2, which includes holding the first OIG town hall meeting, preparing and presenting the FY 2024-2025 OIG budget to the board of supervisors, visiting the SFSO jail facilities, examining the jail conditions and challenges to visitation, and participating in events to promote the Office of the Inspector General.

    7. Department of Police Accountability Presentation (Informational)

      Marshall Khine, Chief Attorney, will present on Sheriff’s Investigations for 2024 Q2 by the Department of Police Accountability. 

    8. Sheriff's Department Oversight Board 2024 Q2 Report (Discussion and Possible Action)

      Discussion and possible action on the 2024 Q2 Report due to the Sheriff and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors pursuant to San Francisco Charter 4.137 (b)(5) regarding SDOB evaluations and outreach, and OIG reports submitted to SDOB.

      The public is welcome to address the Board regarding items that did not appear on this afternoon's agenda but are within the subject matter jurisdiction of the Board. Speakers shall address the Board as a whole and not to individual Board members, Department, or SFSO personnel.

    Know Your Rights Under the Sunshine Act

    Government's duty is to serve the public, reaching its decisions in full view of the public. Commissions, boards, councils, and other agencies of the City and County exist to conduct the people's business. This ordinance assures that deliberations are conducted before the people and that City operations are open to the people's review.     Per the Language Access Ordinance (Chapter 91 of the San Francisco Administrative Code), Chinese, Spanish, and or Filipino (Tagalog) interpreters will be available upon request. Meeting Minutes may be translated if requested after they have been adopted by the Commission. Assistance in additional languages may be honored whenever possible. To request assistance with these services please contact the SDA Office of Inspector General at (v) 415.241.7711 at least 48 hours in advance of the hearing. Late requests will be honored if possible.

    Sheriff's Department Oversight Board hearings are held in Room 400 at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place in San Francisco. City Hall is accessible to persons using wheelchairs and other assistive mobility devices. Ramps are available at the Grove, Van Ness and McAllister entrances. The closest accessible BART station is Civic Center Station. For information about SFMTA service, please call 311.
    Assistive listening devices, real-time captioning, American Sign Language interpreters, readers, large print agendas, or other accommodations are available upon request. Please make your requests for accommodations to the SDA - Office of the Inspector General at (v) 415.241-7711. Requesting accommodations at least 72 hours prior to the meeting will help to ensure availability.
