      The San Francisco Arts Commission acknowledges that we are on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula. As the indigenous stewards of this land and in accordance with their traditions, the Ramaytush Ohlone have never ceded, lost nor forgotten their responsibilities as the caretakers of this place, as well as for all peoples who reside in their traditional territory. As guests, we recognize that we benefit from living and working on their traditional homeland. We wish to pay our respects by acknowledging the ancestors, elders and relatives of the Ramaytush Community and by affirming their sovereign rights as First Peoples.       1. Motion to approve "Be the Change," a mural design by Cameron Moberg. The mural will be installed at 2400 Bayshore Ave. in District 10. The mural measures approximately 16 ft. tall by 100 ft. wide. The artwork is funded by SF Beautiful Grant and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      2. Motion to approve "Daydreamin’," a mural design by Andre Sibayan. The mural will be installed at 221 4th Street. in District 6. The mural measures approximately 10 ft. tall by 60 ft. wide. The artwork is funded by Public Works and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      3. Motion to approve "Dito Kami," a mural design by Francesca Villa Mateo. The mural will be installed at 790 Folsom Street in District 6. The mural measures approximately 10 ft. tall by 120 ft. wide. The artwork is funded by Public Works and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      4. Motion to approve "Vicha Ratanapakdee Mosaic Stairway Project," a mosaic stairway design by Sarah Siskin and Thitiwat Phromratanapongse. The mosaic will be installed at Vicha Ratanpakdee Way to Terra Vista Ave and O'Farrell street in District 2. The mosaic measures approximately 66 steps (dimensions average 6.5 in. riser, 10 in. tread by 3 flights by 2 landings. The artwork is funded by private funds and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      5. Motion to approve "Gum Moon," a mural design by Corey Pang. The mural will be installed at 940 Washington Street in District 3. The mural measures approximately 6 ft. tall by 6 ft. wide. The artwork is funded by the 2024 Week Of The Young Child Fund and will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      6. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2019.54, "Zenith (VII)," 2016/2017, acrylic over cyanotype exposed to sunlight on canvas, quadriptych, 72 in. x 145 in. (72 in. x 36 1/4 in. each panel), by Ala Ebtekar. The artwork is scheduled to be installed at the San Francisco International Airport, Harvey Milk Terminal 1, Boarding Area C, North Transition Hall, pre-security, Departures Level. The artwork was approved as purchased under San Francisco Arts Commission Res. No. 1203-18-375 and Airport Commission Res. No. 18-0236. 
         
      7. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2021.08, "Market Street 5 (The Hub)," 2018, archival pigment print, edition 1 of 3, H20 in x W35 in., by Hughen/Starkweather. The artwork is installed at 49 South Van Ness, Floor 14. The artwork was approved as purchased under Res. No. 0601-20-068.

The artwork is installed at 49 South Van Ness, Floor 13. The artwork was approved as purchased under Res. No. 0601-20-068.
         
      38. Motion to retroactively approve and accept into the Civic Art Collection 2021.20.a-c, "Sea Change," 2020, triptych, acrylic, ink, graphite, colored pencil and collage on paper, H36 in. x W36 in. each, approximately H36 in. x W 108 in. total, by Val Britton. The artwork is installed at 49 South Van Ness, Floor 8. The artwork was approved as purchased under Res. No. 0601-20-068.
         
      39. Motion to rescind RESOLUTION NO. 0204-19-036: Motion to approve the "Alex Nieto Memorial Monument," a design by Josué Rojas and Armando Vasquez. The memorial will be installed at Bernal Hill, located at Bernal Heights Park. The monument will be constructed of concrete with painted imagery and measure approximately 4 ft. high by 2 ft. wide by 4 ft. deep on a 12 ft. circular concrete base. The project is sponsored by the Alex Nieto Memorial Committee and Acción Latina; the memorial will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
         
      40. Motion to approve the "Alex Nieto Memorial," a design by Lucia Gonzalez Ippolito and Mehmet Alademir. The memorial will be installed at Bernal Heights Park. It will be constructed of stone, tile and concrete, and measure approximately 4 ft. 6 in. high by 5 ft. wide by 5 ft. deep with a 12 ft. diameter circular stone base. The project is sponsored by the Alex Nieto Memorial Committee; the memorial will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.
    4. Thomas J Price Sculpture Temporary City Hall Installation

      Discussion and Possible Action

      Discussion and possible action to approve the loan of a 9 ft. tall bronze sculpture by Thomas J Price titled "The Distance Within," from the Hauser & Wirth Gallery, to be placed on the Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place (Polk Street) sidewalk adjacent to City Hall pending approval of the Mayor and the issuance of a permit from Public Works. The total estimated cost is $40,000 with funding coming from the Public Art Trust, based upon a 2018 Commission resolution approving the use of $300,000 for temporary public art projects, and a pledge of $10,000 from the Civic Center Community Benefit District. The sculpture would be on display for six months, tentatively June 14, 2024 – December 16, 2024. The Arts Commission will be responsible for maintenance and the artwork will not become part of the Civic Art Collection.

    5. San Francisco Water Department (formerly CDD) at 2000 Marin

      Discussion and possible action to approve artist Walter Kitundu (Kitundu Studio, LLC) and proposal "Those Who Carry Water" for the San Francisco Water Department at 2000 Marin Public Art Project, as recommended by the artist review panel. 

      Discussion and possible action to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a contract with Walter Kitundu (Kitundu Studio, LLC) for an amount not to exceed $1,860,000 for the design, engineering, fabrication, transportation, and consultation during installation of an artwork for the San Francisco Water Department at 2000 Marin Public Art Project.

    6. Ocean Beach Climate Change Adaptation Project

      Discussion and possible action to approve the final design of "Listening Stones," a series of 11 granite boulders, by Mark Baugh-Sasaki for the Ocean Beach Climate Change Adaptation Project, located at Great Highway and Sloat Blvd.

    7. Gene Friend Recreation Center Project

      Discussion and Possible Action

      Discussion and possible action to approve the conceptual design proposal "Barrio Fiesta" by Cece Carpio for the Gene Friend Recreation Center Integrated Wall Artwork, as recommended by the artist review panel.

      Discussion and possible action to authorize the Director of Cultural Affairs to enter into a contract with Cece Carpio for an amount not to exceed $206,550 for the design, engineering, fabrication, transportation, and installation consultation of an Integrated Wall Artwork for the Gene Friend Recreation Center Project.

    1. Agenda items will normally be heard in order. Please note, that on occasion a special circumstance may necessitate that an agenda item be taken out of order. To ensure that an agenda item is not missed, it is advised to arrive at the beginning of the meeting. All agenda changes will be announced by the Chair at the top of the meeting.

    2. Public comment will be taken before or during the Committee’s consideration of each agenda item. Each speaker will be allowed to speak for the time allotted by the Chair at the top of the meeting for up to three (3) minutes.

    3. During General Public Comment, members of the public may address the Commissioners on matters that are within the Arts Commission’s jurisdiction and are not on the agenda.

    4. Any person speaking during a public comment period may supply a brief written summary of their comments, which shall, if no more than 150 words, be included in the official file. Written comments pertaining to this meeting should be submitted to art-info@sfgov.org.

    5. Persons attending the meeting and those unable to attend may submit written comments regarding the subject of the meeting.     Individuals and entities that influence or attempt to influence local legislative or administrative action may be required by the San Francisco Lobbyist Ordinance (San Francisco Campaign and Governmental Conduct Code sections 2.100-2.160) to register and report lobbying activity.

    Per the American Disabilities Act and the Language Access Ordinance, Chinese, Spanish, and/or American Sign Language interpreters will be available upon request. Additionally, every effort will be made to provide a sound enhancement system, meeting materials in alternative formats, and/or a reader. Minutes may be translated after they have been adopted by the Commission. For all these requests, please contact Program Associate Tara Peterson at least 48 hours before the meeting at 415-252-2219/tara.peterson@sfgov.org. Late requests will be honored if possible. The hearing room is wheelchair accessible.

Las minutas podrán ser traducidas luego de ser aprobadas por la Comisión.
