Mattie Scott, Founder, Healing 4 Our families & Our Nation (H4OF&ON), is a Mother who lost her youngest son, George C. Scott, 24 y/o, and father of two sons, who was shot and killed, July 17, 1996 while trying to stop an argument between two friends, at a graduation party in her Western Addition Fillmore community in San Francisco. The very next day was her grandson’s Gabriel Johnson Scott’s 6th birthday. He was waiting for his dad’s call that would never come, to wish him happy birthday. However, Mattie had to tell her grandson his dad died and the scream she heard on the phone from her grandson, is a scream I wouldn’t wish on even my worst enemy. It was a scream that shook my core and wakes me up every day to do this work helping others impacted where I can. H4OF&ON was born out of pain, to purpose to save lives, to get guns out of the wrong hands, and help navigate anyone impacted by senseless gun violence, homicide violence, DV, suicide, and violence period, in the right direction, so they wouldn’t have to go through what my family experienced.

Her leadership skills, compassion, and activism, supports individuals, parents, youth, families and communities impacted by senseless gun violence and violence period. H4OF&ON serves here locally, statewide and nationally, working with anyone impacted. She helps them with funeral arrangements, mental health needs and aftercare support and healing services. We need your help because we can’t do this alone. We collaborate with faith-based, CBO’s, elected officials, schools and educational institutions, law enforcement, businesses, and communities to achieve meaningful change and peace. We work with both current and former incarcerated individuals. “Each one, reach one and teach one”, her motto for strengthening families, building capacity and empowering communities. We must “Stop the killing and Start healing” in all areas of violence! Education is key to violence prevention, with economic empowerment, affordable housing/healthcare, mental health services, and justice. Mattie says, “We’re in it to WIN IT and TOGETHER we can”.
