The Deemed Approved Uses Ordinance is no longer in effect

In the summer of 2024, the SF Board of Supervisors voted to rescind (end) the DAO which pertains to all businesses with an active Type 20 or 21 California liquor license (ABC license). That decision was effective immediately.

What to know

What is DAO?

DAO was a City regulation that sets standards of practice for businesses that sell alcoholic beverages.

DAO is no longer in effect

  • No DAO fees (H73 permit) will be collected from The Office of the Treasurer and Tax Collector/City and County of SF.
  • Businesses previously required to post DAO performance standards do not have to do so anymore.
  • Businesses who sell alcohol will still need a State ABC license and pay the annual ABC fee.
