Honor Mexico’s Independence Day

Civic Center Plaza hosts the annual El Grito de Dolores celebration on Sunday, September 15 starting at 4pm to feature live music, dance performances, a Mexican Food Night Market and a Lucha Libre match. Free admission! City Hall flag raising at 8pm.

Visit 24th Street

An annual tradition, Calle 24 Latino Cultural District festoons 24th Street with papel picado for Fiestas de las Américas on September 21st from 11am to 6pm. This year marks Calle 24’s 10-year Anniversary!

Mural History Tour with Precita Eyes 

The Mission is famous worldwide for its colorful and soulful murals. Join longtime neighborhood resident and Precita Eyes Muralist since 1980 Patricia Rose as she shares local lore and history, as well as plentiful narratives about the murals you’ll see.

A walk through the Mission transports visitors through the flavors and craftsmanship represented across Latin America. For Latino Heritage Month, we highlight unique apparel stores that received support from the City. Mixcoatl (3201 24th Street) and Luz de Luna (3182 24th Street) specialize in authentic, original Indigenous handmade arts, jewelry, and clothing. Frida’s Closet (3473 25th Street) features traditional Mexican and Latino-inspired clothing and Made in the City (5750 Mission Street) offers unique urban wear.

Film SF + SFO Video Arts Present: Latino Heritage Screening Series

Film SF hosts a series of FREE film screenings spotlighting local talent from the San Francisco Bay Area’s Latinx community in conjunction with Latino Heritage Month. Films will be screened throughout September and October at San Francisco International Airport (SFO), the only airport in the country with an accredited museum and film program, SFO Video Arts. Film SF and SFO Video Arts will co-host a community kickoff event with some of the filmmakers featured in the series on September 5, 1 – 3:30 p.m.  The event series culminates at the Main Library with a community screening and mixer on October 7. The family-owned Mexican grocery chain, Mi Rancho, brings its unique shopping experience to San Francisco’s Bayview community. Established by the owner of Healing Cuts, Ismael de Luna, Taboo is a wellness center that offers haircuts, nail services, and massage. His new location was supported by the City’s First Year Free program, which waives the cost of initial registration, license and first-year permit fees for qualifying businesses; permitting assistance from the Office of Small Business; SF Shines Grant, which supports property improvements; and Storefront Opportunity Grant, which helps entrepreneurs secure new commercial leases. The public is invited to the opening celebration on Saturday, September 21 from 3 – 6 p.m.
