Check if your building permit needs plans

We review every building permit application for life safety and building code compliance.

These projects do not require plans:

• Replace windows in-kind (same size and location): must be applied for through the PermitSF portal
• Replace doors in-kind (same size and location): must be applied for through the PermitSF portal
• Replace or repair exterior siding in-kind (same size and location): must be applied for through the PermitSF portal
• Non-structural re-roofing : must be applied for through the PermitSF portal
• In-kind, non-structural kitchen or bathroom work in an occupancy class R-3 residential building or an R-2 apartment building constructed before 1991: must be applied for through the PermitSF portal
• Replace garage doors : apply over-the-counter.
• Repair less than 50% of a deck and exterior stairs and without adding any new firewalls : apply over-the-counter.
• Minor dry rot repairs : apply over-the-counter.
