Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)

The ADR program is for mediation of any housing-related conflicts in San Francisco.

• Housing issues outside the Rent Ordinance can be addressed (for example, we can help resolve disputes involving neighbors, roommates, security deposit claims, etc.)
• Housing issues that fall under the Rent Ordinance can also be addressed (i.e., issues that are covered by the Ordinance but are not subject to our regular petition process). People can also use the ADR Program as an alternative to filing a landlord or tenant petition, as long as both sides agree to attend the ADR mediation session and understand that no decision will issue in the event the parties cannot resolve the dispute.
• Parties to a pending Rent Board Report of Alleged Wrongful Eviction may participate in the ADR Program, but no agreement by a tenant to vacate a rental unit can be discussed.

All parties to the mediation must agree to participate in the ADR Session prior to making the request to the Rent Board, but no supporting documents or evidence is required. If you are interested you must file a Request for Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) form.
