What to do

Check your ranking

You will need your lottery number to look up your results.

Where to find your DALP lottery number

  • We sent you an email with your DALP lottery number after you applied.
  • If you signed in to your DAHLIA account when you applied, it is saved there too.

What to expect after the lottery

1. MOHCD contacts applicants in order of the lottery results

The lottery determines your place in line to get down payment loan funding.

We contact applicants in lottery rank order, by the following groups:

  • San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD) educators
  • First responders
  • General public

Loan funding for people in each group comes from separate funding sources. Learn more about DALP funding sources.

It may take several months

Depending on where you rank in the lottery, it may take several months or longer until you hear back from us.

We contact applicants until all loan funding has been reserved. This means, if we run out of funding before it is your turn in line, you may not hear back about your application. See how much funding is available.

2. If you get contacted, fill out a detailed application

When it is your turn in line, we will contact you. You must send in a DALP Full Application package with all required documents.

If you rank near the top of the lottery results, being prepared to submit your full application is especially important.

Be prepared to respond quickly
You must respond within 5 business days or you may miss your chance to get a loan.

3. We review your application carefully

If we determine you are eligible, you will get a DALP pre-approval and we will set aside the loan funds for you.

We can only set aside funds for you from 1 funding source. For example, if you are an educator, you can get funds from either the Educator funding source or the General public funding source, but not both.

How long it takes

You will get an answer within 15 business days after we get a complete application package.

4. Buyer goes into contract to purchase

If you get a DALP pre-approval, you have 90 days to enter a sales contract for any property on the open market.

After you enter a sales contract, you must also meet with your housing counselor to get a certificate of homebuyer education.

5. Final approval and closing

You must work with your mortgage lender to get approval for your loan. Your lender will send us documents for final approval.

If everything matches our requirements, we will issue a loan commitment letter. The loan commitment letter allows 30 days to close the sale.

How long it takes

You will get an answer within 15 business days after we get a completed package from your lender.

Costs
At closing, you pay a DALP program fee as part of your closing costs.
