New homeowner checklist
3 key steps to take as a new homeowner.
File your homeowners' exemption
We encourage all new homeowners to file for a homeowners' exemption as one of the first steps after purchasing their home.
Pay the Supplemental Tax bill
New homeowners will receive a Supplemental tax bill(s) and possibly Escape tax bill(s).
These are one-time tax assessments designed to capture the differences between your market value at the time of purchase and the value on the assessment roll. Many first-time home buyers are unaware of the Supplemental Tax.
For additional information about Supplemental Tax bills, view our video tutorial.
Review your notice of assessed value annually
Homeowners will receive a Notice of Assessed Value (NAV) each July from our office. The annual tax bills are sent by the Treasurer & Tax Collector's Office and are due in 2 installments: December 10th and April 10th of the fiscal year. They will become delinquent if not paid by each due date.
