Order Online

You must pay with a credit card or e-check. 

You payment confirmation email will include a link to schedule an in-person notary appointment at the Permit Center. No Same Day Appointments.

Be prepared for your notary visit.

  • Gather your documents
  • Bring a valid, government issued photo ID to your appointment.
  • Check in at the Permit Center Help Desk.

Types of documents that may require notarization: Plans, Deeds, Contracts, Affidavits, Wills, and Trusts. 

The San Francisco Permit Center does not offer Apostille services.  The California Secretary of State provides Apostilles to authenticate California public officials' signatures on documents to be used outside of the United States of America.  Visit their website for more information:  Request an Apostille :: California Secretary of State

Acceptable forms of photo identification

All ID cards must be either current or issued within the last 5 years.

  • Identification card or driver’s license issued by the California Department of Motor Vehicles;
  • United States passport;
  • Inmate identification card issued by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, if the inmate is in custody in California state prison;
  • Any form of inmate identification issued by a sheriff’s department, if the inmate is in custody in a local detention facility; or
  • Valid consular identification document issued by a consulate from the applicants country of citizenship, or a valid passport from the applicant’s country of citizenship;
  • Driver’s license issued by another state or by a Canadian or Mexican public agency authorized to issue driver’s licenses;
  • Identification card issued by another state;
  • United States military identification card (caution: current military identification cards might not contain all the required information);
  • Employee identification card issued by an agency or of office of the State of California, or an agency or of office of a city, county, or city and county in California.
  • Identification card issued by a federally recognized tribal government.
