The Muni vehicle collision rate measures the ratio of Muni collisions to every 100,000 miles of Muni service. Measuring Muni collisions per 100,000 miles helps the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) compare performance across different vehicles in its fleet.
Collision reporting is a key performance indicator for the SFMTA’s strategic objective to create a safer transportation experience for everyone.
How performance is measured
Data on Muni collisions are reported through the TransitSafe system and calculated as a ratio to every 100,000 vehicle miles traveled, as reported by the Muni asset management database.
The number displayed on the scorecard page represents a fiscal year average of the values in the chart above.
