What We Do

The Controller’s Office conducts programmatic and policy work to support the sustainability and accountability of nonprofits that contract with the City. The Controller’s Office also promotes transparency in nonprofit spending and performance by developing dashboards, reports, and audits related to nonprofit contracting.

Citywide Nonprofit Monitoring and Capacity Building Program

This program sets policies, standards and guidelines and coordinates departments in monitoring of nonprofits and contracts. The program also provides tools, training and resources to nonprofits and departments to complete monitoring requirements.

The Controller is the chief accounting officer and auditor for the City and County of San Francisco. The San Francisco Charter provides the Controller with the authority to perform regular oversight of the City’s contracting procedures.
