The Population Health Division provides expert core public health services for people in the City and County of San Francisco. These services include epidemiology and surveillance, health promotion, disease and injury prevention, disaster preparedness and response, applied research, as well as policy development and implementation.

Applied Research, Community Health Epidemiology & Surveillance (ARCHES)

The ARCHES Branch conducts public health surveillance on communicable diseases such as HIV, STIs, Hepatitis A, B and C, Tuberculosis and other reportable diseases.

Disease Prevention & Control (DPC)

The DPC Branch protects the health of San Francisco residents
and visitors through public health clinics (Tuberculosis/TB Clinic, City Clinic, and the Adult
Immunization Travel Clinic/AITC). 

Environmental Health Branch

The Environmental Health Branch is the regulatory branch for the Department of Public Health. The branch enforces the nearly 50 Health Codes and regulations through over 30 separate programs. Learn more about us here.

Emergency Medical Services Agency (EMSA)

The EMSA branch provides oversight for the Emergency Medical Services System in San Francisco. We direct, plan, monitor, and evaluate the San Francisco EMS System in collaboration with system and community providers. Learn more about us here

Equity & Community Engagement (ECE)

The ECE branch supports efforts to build relationships and partnerships with community members and organizations to ensure that services and programs are best tailored to meet and support community health needs.

Office of Anti-Racism & Equity (OARE)

The OARE branch leads efforts to advance racial and health equity in the PHD's workforce, programs, and services. OARE also manages DPH’s food security and equity work. Learn more about the Food Security Taskforce.

Public Health Emergency Preparedness and Response (PHEPR)

The PHEPR Branch serves the public and partners by coordinating health emergency preparedness, response, and recovery efforts. The Branch staff acts as stewards through strategic planning, efficient allocation of resources, and leveraging of SFDPH and citywide capabilities.

Public Health Lab
