The Department of Police Accountability (DPA) investigates all complaints against police officers. After the investigation of a compliant is complete, you have the right to request an investigative hearing.
To request a hearing, explain the reasons for your request in writing.
You must submit a written request by mail or in person within 10 days of the DPA Findings Letter.

What to include
Your letter needs to include at least 1 of these reasons for requesting a hearing:
- There is additional evidence, such as witness statements or other information that contradicts, supplements, or was not disclosed by the investigation
- There is reason to question the conclusion of the investigation
- An appearance in person by the parties would further the fact-finding process
- There has been an undue lapse of time since the occurrence of the incident
- A hearing would advance public confidence in the complaint process
- There are other factors that you believe make an investigative hearing necessary
The DPA Director has the authority to impanel an investigative hearing if:
- It's requested by the complainant or an involved officer
- They determine that a hearing will facilitate the fact-finding process
