The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #10 and Update on the Estimated Number of Ballots Left to Count for the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, November 12, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the 10th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 6,466 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued yesterday, November 11. 

The 6,466 ballots included in today’s preliminary results report represent the processing of approximately 25,864 cards since the ballot that each voter received was comprised of four cards.   

Overall, since Wednesday, November 6, the Department has reported results from more than 153,000 ballots, which represents the processing of approximately 612,000 cards.

The Department must still process and count approximately 18,200 ballots. This estimate includes: 

Vote-by-mail ballots: 3,700

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 14,500

Department personnel will process and count ballots until 5 p.m. tonight. On Wednesday, November 13, ballot processing will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe

The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Wednesday, November 13, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results.  

When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
