Yesterday, the Equality Act (H.R. 5) was reintroduced in the House of Representatives. This bill is comprehensive federal civil rights legislation that would create permanent protections for LGBTQ individuals, women, and people of color from discrimination. If passed, this historic legislation would provide much-needed federal protections across healthcare, housing, education, employment, federal funding, and public accommodations.
“Yesterday’s reintroduction of the Equality Act by Congress is a historic moment in history as we move closer to full protections for LGBTQ Americans,” said Clair Farley, Director of the Office of Transgender Initiatives. “For too long, LGBTQ people have been left behind and disproportionately impacted by discrimination in every aspect of our lives. It is time for comprehensive Federal nondiscrimination protections; it is time to pass the Equality Act.”
We are proud to join President Biden and national, state and local organizations in calling on the swift passage of the Equality Act.
