The San Francisco Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and the Department of Police Accountability (DPA) are pleased to announce that on March 18, 2024, the OIG is launching the department’s new case management system with an integrated digital complaint system dedicated to receiving complaints about Sheriff’s employees, and a complainant portal that will allow complainants to follow their cases. To ensure that all complaints are properly directed, the DPA and the OIG launched a joint complaint landing page offering individuals clear guidance for filing a complaint against either a San Francisco Sheriff’s deputy or a San Francisco police officer.

“I’m proud and excited to take this huge step forward in building our department. A case management system is the foundation of a modern office that will allow us to effectively manage and track our work, efficiently analyze and report on our data, and significantly expand accessibility for the public to engage our services,” said Inspector General Wiley. “I’m grateful for the collaboration with the Department of Police Accountability which helped us accelerate the building of the OIG’s case management system at a small fraction of what it would cost to build the system from scratch.”

“We are delighted that a product of our partnership with the OIG is a platform for complainants to register their complaints with clarity and confidence. Our mutual dedication to improving accessibility and accountability underscores our commitment to fostering trust between oversight agencies and the communities they serve," stated Executive Director Henderson.

Voters passed Supervisor Walton’s Proposition D in November 2020 creating the Sheriff’s Department Oversight Board and the Office of the Inspector General to provide independent oversight for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Office. The inaugural Inspector General, Terry Wiley started office on January 8, 2024. Since then, Inspector General Wiley has been busy seeking funds through the budgeting process to hire staff and build the department’s infrastructure to become fully operational. Please stay tuned for future announcements about further developments.
