TIDA Equity Program

A new program focused on fostering an inclusive and equitable TI/YBI community.

The redevelopment of the Island is an ambitious and innovative initiative. We are creating a neighborhood committed to inclusivity & sustainability. Our ongoing & high-quality community engagement will be critical in the success of such a complex and transformative project. We will need to not only integrate the neighborhood's infrastructure into greater San Francisco; but also assist Island communities in building cohesion.

As we’re 1) advancing the public transportation options, 2) activating and caring for our community spaces, 3) easing the challenges of relocation and 4) laying the groundwork for an economically robust YBI/TI; we must do this this work while recognizing and addressing rising social disparities. Naming and lessening disparities is key to enhancing the quality of daily life during construction.

TIDA is approaching these challenges through a thoughtful and inclusive process. The project will build on decades of community-building efforts by community partner, One Treasure Island, TIDA, and partner agencies. The work will touch on eight project areas: transportation, community engagement & development, near-term space activation, retail, public realm & open space planning, community facilities & phasing, and an equity analysis.

This equity-centered work uplifts and invests in the needs and visions of Indigenous, Black, and other people of color, seniors, people with disabilities, youth, low-income workers, and other underserved groups living and growing on the Island.
