What kind of examination will the Medical Examiner perform?

Depending on the nature of the case, the physician's examination may include an external examination or autopsy, radiographic imaging, forensic laboratory tests, and medical history.

What is an autopsy?

An autopsy is a thorough examination of the body, inside and out, that documents injuries and diseases in order to better understand how a death came about.

Can I still have an open casket funeral after an autopsy?

Yes. Autopsies are performed in a professional manner that does not interfere with the viewing of the deceased, provided that the body was in a condition suitable for viewing prior to the autopsy. The mortuary or funeral home director can advise your family accordingly.
