How do I obtain a copy of the autopsy report?
Please email OCME@sfgov.org to request a copy of the certified forensic reports. The certified forensic reports will contain all the forensic studies done by us (autopsy, investigative, and forensic laboratory reports) as well as the cause and manner of death.
In the email, include decedent name and the OCME case number. There is no fee for families. For non-family members or members of the public, it is $47 per certified forensic report.
When are the certified forensic reports (investigative, autopsy, and toxicology reports) available?
We seek to complete all forensic studies within 90 days of the date of death, which is the national standard for case closure and report completion. We’ll email you the certified forensic reports as soon as we receive your email request, if the case has closed. If not closed, we will log your request and email you the certified forensic reports as soon as they're available.
