Commissioner Zay David Latt

Commissioner Latt currently serves as the Director of Government and Community Relations for San Francisco State University (SF State). In his role, he serves as a primary spokesperson between SF State and key officials, legislators, agencies, community representatives, and constituencies at federal, state, and local levels. In addition to providing strategic counsel to the President’s leadership team, he executes comprehensive and strategic programs to advance the University’s engagement with the community and government stakeholders. 

From 2018 to 2021, Commissioner Latt worked for House

Commissioner Latt currently serves as the Director of Government and Community Relations for San Francisco State University (SF State). In his role, he serves as a primary spokesperson between SF State and key officials, legislators, agencies, community representatives, and constituencies at federal, state, and local levels. In addition to providing strategic counsel to the President’s leadership team, he executes comprehensive and strategic programs to advance the University’s engagement with the community and government stakeholders. 

From 2018 to 2021, Commissioner Latt worked for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi first as her Immigration Specialist and later as her Senior Advisor on Immigration.  In this role, he represented Speaker Pelosi with key communities in San Francisco and advised her on immigration, higher education, Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), LGBT, foreign affairs, and human rights issues.

Prior to joining the San Francisco Immigrant Rights Commission, he previously served on the San Francisco Human Rights Commission's LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee.  Before working at the Speaker’s Office, he worked at the Legal Aid Association of California to support legal aid services statewide in California. He also interned for Congresswomen Jackie Speier and Barbara Lee as a student.

Commissioner Latt and his family immigrated to the Bay Area from Burma in 2006. He attended Bay Area public schools and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. In his free time, he enjoys reading, running, and frequenting local restaurants.
