Having worked to put states such as Oregon and Washington on the tourism map, Matt was the first-ever Chief Marketing Officer for the San Francisco Travel Association, the official sales and marketing arm for San Francisco as a visitor destination. As CMO, Matt had the enviable job of creating marketing strategies and programs that differentiated San Francisco from its competitors, and promoted San Francisco and the surrounding region as the most compelling convention and leisure destination in the world.

In this role, Matt guided all brand marketing, integrated marketing services including website, publications and social media, graphic design services, public relations, arts & culture marketing, membership development, corporate partnerships, and visitor information services.

Among notable accomplishments, he led the successful re-name and re-brand of this 100-year-old organization as part of a yearlong strategic re-organizational evaluation, guided the development of the multiple award-winning “49 Hours of San Francisco” campaign, and oversaw massive growth of fans to the organization’s social media channels.

Prior to joining SF Travel, Matt designed and led innovative and highly successful marketing programs for global consumer brands from Coca-Cola and adidas to ESPN, Xbox and H-P, and led commercial productions from a few thousand dollars up to multi-millions of dollars.

In his role as Vice President of the Film Commission, Matt works closely with President Wang and Executive Director Fata to ensure the commission is promoting film, TV and digital production as an essential economic engine for the City and County of San Francisco, and that the City by the Bay remains a place where diversity thrives and is represented on screen.

Matt is currently consulting for an ad agency that specializes in destination marketing.

Favorite Film Shot in San Francisco: Impossible to name just one. I will say that when I sat in a theater in the Fall of 2021 to see Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” and saw trailers for both “Venom 2” and “The Matrix 4,” all three of which had been filmed in San Francisco, I had tears in my eyes from pride at what the Film SF team had accomplished.
