Juvenile Probation Commission

Ms. Linda Martley-Jordan is a proud African American, Cisgender, Queer, Mother, Grandmother, Community Activist, and Educator who was born in Alameda, California. She considers herself a native of the Bay Area. She was raised in East Oakland and attended Skyline High School.

Ms. Martley-Jordan feels her greatest accomplishes are her Children, Rev. Aisha Jordan, Joshua Jordan II, Jamal Jordan, Aliciah Jordan (deceased), and her 10 Grandchildren, Bakari, Nia, Rashad, Jordan, Imani, Jacob, Lil Jamal, Naeem, Lil Josh, and Chaeem.

After her high school graduation, she attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but completed her college education with 2 degrees from Oaklands Laney College (AA Degree - African American Studies, Social Science) and a BA Degree from the University of California at Berkeley (African American Studies). As a lifelong learner, Ms. Martley-Jordan is currently a student at UC San Diego and will complete her “College Counseling” degree on May 31, 2024.

Her journey into education was through media production. Ms. Martley-Jordan was a part-time Rip & Read news reporter and a part-time video editor for the Saturday children’s 1-hour TV show. This occurred at San Diego’s North County radio station KKOS-FM 95.9 from 1987-88 and ABC, KGTV 10. These opportunities guided her to San Marcos College to obtain a certificate in Broadcast Media. In no time at all she had become a Segment Producer/Editor for KRON/Bay-TV Morning show. Her 10-year journey led her into education with a notion of supporting youth to follow their dreams wherever they were. She wanted youth to know that there is nothing in the world that could stop them.

Ms. Martley-Jordan was asked to join the staff at Phillip and Sala Burton High School in San Francisco by their Principal Dr. Sunquia Thomas in October 2022 as the Community Liaison. Working in collaboration with the Culture and Climate Team at Burton HS Ms. Martley-Jordan was able to immediately connect to students and their families as an additional school resource. In addition to that work, Ms. Martley-Jordan was selected as the Burton Site Lead for the SFUSD Comprehensive Coordinated Early Intervening Services(CCEIS) which is state mandated to investigate why there are so many Black/African American children in Special Education, who were identified as Emotionally Disturbed, Other Health Impairments and Discipline issues in comparison to the overall numbers in San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). Working with Central Office staff to compile information from parents that will tell central office staff how they would like to see SFUSD shift and change policy and practices to better support their students.

Her CTE Teaching Credential in Education, Child Development, and Family Services has provided students and families with additional tools that have fostered a stronger sense of belonging for them to Burton High School.
