Jane Gong

Jane Gong started as the City’s inaugural Director of Emerging Technologies in November of 2024.  

In this newly created role, Jane will lead San Francisco's strategic implementation of artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies across the City's 50+ departments while ensuring ethical deployment and equitable outcomes for all San Franciscans. She will oversee the development of ethical use standards, decision frameworks, and governance structures for emerging technologies across City departments. She will also lead efforts to identify and implement AI programs that can be scaled Citywide.

Jane brings over 20 years of technology leadership experience to the position, including 15 years of service with the City and County of San Francisco. Most recently, she served as Deputy Chief Digital Services Officer, where she grew the Digital and Data Services team from 13 to 50 people and managed a $10.4 million budget. During her tenure with the City, Jane has led numerous successful technology initiatives, including:

• Development of the award-winning San Francisco Small Business Portal
• Co-author on the City’s first ever Digital Strategy
• Implementation of the City's fully secure and accessible SF.gov website
• Creation of the COVID-19 Vaccine Finder and Scheduler that served 400,000 residents
• Design and implementation of DAHLIA, the go-to online application system for affordable housing
• Launch of the first-ever public-private collaboration integrating the City's Short Term Rentals application with Airbnb and VRBO through APIs
