Alicia Contreras Langagne
In the Spring of 2024, Alicia Contreras joined MOD as the Disability Access Compliance and Civic Engagement Coordinator, taking on a three-year role to help the City meet its disability access goals. Her work includes supporting federal compliance, assisting the Mayor’s Disability Council (MDC), and ensuring that the needs of people with disabilities are considered during emergencies. She also oversees accessibility in Community Development Programs.

Before joining MOD, Alicia spent her career empowering people with disabilities. She led several Bay Area non-profits, including the Central American Resource Center, Spanish Speaking Citizens Foundation, Center for Accessible Technology, and Whirlwind Women. Her efforts have helped students enter college and earn degrees and supported young people and adults in finding higher-paying jobs. Before moving to the U.S. in 2000, Alicia made a big impact in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, by starting the first center for women with disabilities, launching the first wheelchair-accessible transport program, and establishing the city’s first disability office. She has also worked with prominent leaders in Disability Rights, including MacArthur award recipients, to make the world more inclusive.
