For Immediate Release

SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, March 22, 2024 – Today, the San Francisco Department of Elections (Department) certified the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.

The final turnout is 46.61%, representing votes cast by 233,465 of San Francisco’s 500,856 registered voters.

The Department’s website provides summary and detailed reports of election results:

The Department again posted images of all voted ballot cards cast for this election that are available for public review.  To allow for easier navigation to review the images, the image files are posted according to Supervisorial Districts.

Ballot Audit and Review

In April, the Department will post an online Ballot Audit and Review application that will allow for the sorting of ballot images according to specific candidates and vote markings.  The posting of ballot images and the Ballot Audit and Review application increases the transparency of votes cast in this election.

To verify the accuracy of the voting system, the Department conducted logic and accuracy testing prior to the election.  After Election Day, the Department manually tallied 1% of the ballots cast at polling places, by mail, and from provisional voting. Additionally, in collaboration with the City’s Department of Technology, the Department conducted a risk-limiting auditing of ballots cast in certain contests to further verify the voting system’s accuracy in tabulating and reporting results. The risk-limiting auditing program is an open-source program that the Department of Technology is developing and is unique in its capability to audit ranked-choice voting contests.
