“As we welcome the arrival of spring and renewed commitments, I am honored to today celebrate Nowruz, a beloved holiday with traditions that go back thousands of years, with City and community leaders at City Hall. On Monday, the Persian community ushered in a new year around the world and here in San Francisco.
The Nowruz holiday is a special time to give thanks to our loved ones, celebrate community, and reaffirm values of peace, coexistence, and respect, all core to our values here in San Francisco.
The recent events unfolding in Iran cast a shadow on this year’s celebrations, reminding us of the continued fight for human rights and freedoms. Now, more than ever, the Iranian people need to know that San Francisco continues to stand in solidarity with them.
As we reflect on the past year and look ahead to the next, I remain hopeful for peace and of the progress that lies ahead. Wishing everyone who celebrates a wonderful New Year. Nowruz Mobarak!”
