The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #7 and Update on the Number of Ballots Left to Count for the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Saturday, November 9, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the seventh preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 35,847 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the previous results report issued yesterday, November 8.  The 35,847 ballots included in today’s preliminary results report represents the processing of approximately 143,388 cards since the ballot that each voter received was comprised of four cards.   

The Department must still process and count approximately 81,000 ballots. This estimate includes: 

Vote-by-mail ballots: 61,000

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 20,000

Department personnel will process and count ballots until 10 p.m. tonight. On Sunday, November 10, ballot processing will occur from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.  Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe

The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Sunday, November 10, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results 

When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
