SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, November 8, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the sixth preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.
Today’s preliminary results report includes 29,594 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the last results report issued yesterday, November 7. The 29,594 ballots included in today’s preliminary results report represents the processing of approximately 118,376 cards since the ballot was comprised of four cards.
The Department must still process and count approximately 117,000 ballots. This estimate includes:
Vote-by-mail ballots: 97,000
Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 20,000
Today’s estimate of vote-by-mail ballots to still count includes approximately 2,000 vote-by-mail ballots the Department received from the United States Postal Service on Thursday and Friday, November 7 and 8, and which are postmarked on or before Election Day.
Department personnel will process and count ballots until 10 p.m. tonight. On Saturday, November 9, ballot processing will occur from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe.
The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Saturday, November 9, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results.
When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
