The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #6 and Update on the Number of Ballots Left to Count for the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, March 8, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the sixth preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 61,291 vote-by-mail ballots counted since the previous results report issued yesterday. Today’s preliminary results report includes votes from approximately 122,582 ballot cards since the ballot is comprised of two cards.   

The Department must still process and count approximately 37,500 ballots in the March 5 Election. This estimate includes: 

Vote-by-mail ballots (received by mail, at drop boxes, and at polling places): 30,000

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 7,500

Department personnel will process and count ballots until 10 p.m. tonight. On Saturday, March 9, ballot processing will occur from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe

On Saturday, March 9, 4 p.m., the Department will issue the seventh preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots, which will be posted at sfelections.org/results.  

On Sunday, March 10, the Department will be closed and will not issue preliminary results reports or an estimate of the remaining ballots to count. 

When the Department issues preliminary results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
