Department of Elections
City and County of San Francisco
John Arntz, Director
For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Tuesday, November 19, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the 16th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.
The Department will next issue preliminary results reports on Thursday, November 21.
Today’s preliminary results report includes 333 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued November 18.
Today’s results include around 80 vote-by-mail ballots that were cured, received from elections offices in other California counties, received from the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) which supports military and overseas voters, and ballots resolved during the canvass of voting materials.
Any remaining ballots that could be processed are those that are received from voters that cure their ballots for such reasons as signature-related issues – of which there are possible 700 ballots, ballots that FVAP forwards that were timely received from military and overseas voters, and ballots received from elections offices in other counties. Also, the Department continues its canvass of election materials and may identify ballots for processing.
Tomorrow, Wednesday, November 20, the Department will prepare ballots for the 1% manual tally. On November 21 and 22, the Department will conduct the manual tally of 1% of the ballots cast in this election. The manual tally results will be compared to the machine counts of the same ballots to verify that the voting system accurately counted and reported votes cast in the election.
Department personnel will continue the canvass of election materials in City Hall from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The manual tally, canvassing of election materials, and ballot processing are open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe.
The Department will next release preliminary results reports on Thursday, November 21, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results.
When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
