For Immediate Release
SAN FRANCISCO, Monday, November 18, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the 15th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.

The Department will next issue preliminary results reports on Tuesday, November 19.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 1,961 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued November 16.

The Department must still process and count approximately 250 ballots. This estimate includes:

Vote-by-mail ballots: 200

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 50

The Department has completed its review of provisional ballots. The resulting number of challenged provisional ballots is now reflected in the number of outstanding provisional ballots remaining for processing.

Tomorrow, November 19, the Department will randomly select 1% of the ballots cast at polling places and by mail for manual tally. On Wednesday, November 20, the manual tally will occur in the Department’s warehouse on Pier 31.  The manual tally results will be compared to the machine counts of the same ballots to verify that the voting system accurately counted and reported votes cast in the election.

Department personnel will continue the canvass of election materials in City Hall from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m.  The random selection of precincts, manual tally, canvassing of election materials, and ballot processing are open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe

The Department will next release preliminary results reports on Tuesday, November 19, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results

When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
