The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #13 and Update on the Estimated Number of Ballots Left to Count for the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, November 15, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the 13th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the November 5, 2024, Consolidated General Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 6,923 vote-by-mail and provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued yesterday, November 14. 

The Department must still process and count approximately 9,600 ballots. This estimate includes: 

Vote-by-mail ballots: 1,100

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 8,500

The estimated number of unprocessed ballots now includes approximately 330 ballots reviewed and approved for processing since yesterday’s report. The additional ballots include approximately 30 faxed vote-by-mail ballots from overseas voters, 300 vote-by-mail ballots which required manual review, and 300 conditional voter registration ballots cast in City Hall. 

Department personnel will process and count ballots until 5 p.m. today. On Saturday, November 16, ballot processing will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Ballot processing is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe

The Department will next release preliminary results reports and an estimate of the number of remaining ballots on Saturday, November 16, 4 p.m., which will be posted at www.sfelections.gov/results

When the Department issues results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
