Department of Elections

City and County of San Francisco

John Arntz, Director

For Immediate Release

SAN FRANCISCO, Friday, March 15, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the 12th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes most ballots requiring processing for this election. Today’s preliminary results report includes ballots that previously required manual review or voters’ actions to cure.  The ballots that voters can cure represent any additional ballots that the Department would process for this election.

The Department expects to certify the election on Friday, March 22.  Since voters can cure ballots until two days before certification, the Department will next process ballots and issue a preliminary results report on Wednesday, March 20.

On Monday, March 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Department will conduct the manual tally of 1% of the ballots cast in the election.  The tally will occur in the Department’s warehouse located on Pier 31.  The purpose of the tally is to verify that the voting system accurately recorded and reported the votes cast.

The tally is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe.  The Department will be closed Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17, and will not be issuing preliminary results reports or unprocessed ballot reports.

When the Department issues preliminary results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
