The Department of Elections Releases Preliminary Results Report #11 and Update on the Number of Ballots Left to Count for the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election

SAN FRANCISCO, Thursday, March 14, 2024 – Today, the Department of Elections issued the 11th preliminary election results reports of votes cast in the March 5, 2024, Consolidated Presidential Primary Election.

Today’s preliminary results report includes 56 vote-by-mail ballots and 2,523 provisional ballots counted since the previous results report issued yesterday.  Today’s preliminary results report includes votes from approximately 5,158 ballot cards since the ballot is comprised of two cards.   

The Department must still process and count approximately 3,240 ballots. This estimate includes: 

Vote-by-mail ballots (received by mail, at drop boxes, and at polling places): 440

Provisional ballots (cast at polling places and the City Hall Voting Center): 2,800

Department personnel will process ballots until 5 p.m. today. 

Ballot processing will occur from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. during weekdays and is open to public observation in-person and via livestream at sfelections.org/observe.  The Department will be closed Saturday and Sunday, March 16 and 17, and will not be issuing preliminary results reports or unprocessed ballot reports.

When the Department issues preliminary results reports, Director John Arntz will be available to respond to questions from members of the public and the media outside of Room 48 in City Hall.
